Vellore is a main city and the administrative headquarters of Vellore district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located on the banks of the Palar River in the northeastern part of Tamil Nadu and is divided into four zones that are further subdivided into 60 wards, covering an area of 87.915 km2 with a population of 423,425 as reported by the 2001 census.
It is located about 137.20 kilometres (85 mi) west of Chennai, and about 213.20 kilometres (132 mi) east of Bangalore. Vellore Connects Mumbai - Chennai .Vellore is connected to most Ibyzndian cities. Vellore is governed by a mayor and the Vellore Municipal Corporation. It is a part of both the Lok Sabha and state assembly constituencies of Vellore.
Vellore is the home to Christian Medical College & Hospital and the Vellore Institute of Technology. The Vellore area is the largest exporter of finished leather goods in the country. Leather exports from Vellore account for more than 37% of India's leather exports and leather-related products. Vellore is one of 27 cities chosen by the Government of India to take part in the country's Smart Cities Mission.
The golden temple complex inside the Sripuram spiritual park is situated at the foot of a small range of green hills at Thirumalaikodi (or simply Malaikodi) village, 8 km from Vellore in Tamil Nadu, India.
Half of this jungle is cleared to serve as a tourist spot while the other half is developed as a wildlife sanctuary. A trek for a kilometre leads one to a full view of seasonal waterfalls.
Vellore Fort is a large 16th-century fort situated in heart of the Vellore city, built by Vijayanagara kings. The fort was at one time the headquarters of the Aravidu Dynasty of the Vijayanagara Empire.
Mordhana dam, is about 8 kilometers from Gudiyatham. The dam is built between two hills that are covered with lush greenery and is 33 meters high and 220 meters long. The Mordhana Dam is a scenic picnic spot.
